Ok.. What is the deal, Liam creates adults only channels on ventrilo and then has to take them down. Why? There was no adults that objected to this. I didn't hear of one. There is times the 18+ crowd doesn't want to be covered up with the young kids. There is some things as well we don't want to talk about in front of them. This is stupid. Chris, get some backbone and quit doing such stupid things. The majority of the zone is for it. the only person I heard against it was field hockey sign language (heather). Maybe they just can't except the fact they are young. Save the day, create us some adults only channels!
Even if the kids are under 18 and claim they are, and access these channels then they accept the fact that they are exposed to the adult world. I mean they will be a adult in the forsay future so why ruin it for others? The parents are the ones who should be keeping track of what kind of chat rooms or channels their kids go into.
yeh, but when you don't feel like hearing the kids, there is a problem. besides the fact of somewhat sheltering them it would also save us from their torture. We need it as much as they do. WE DO NOT WANT TO HEAR THEM SOMETIMES~! It makes no sense, it is not that hard of a thing to do. actually, it was already done, and CHRIS made it be taken away. He just needs to understand that we sometimes want to just talk to people our age. Not the immature 13-5 years. This so stupid. Kids that age do not deserve to be equal in every right.
Yup me being 24 I know what you're going through. Heck I have a seperate aim account so if I want to talk to ppl my age I go on that s/n and those who are my age have that s/n. No one else. Not that I have anything against the younger peeps on my aim list. Of course I no longer use ventrilo so I don't know if these adult only channels were password protect or not.
no. the adult channels were losely based onthe honor system. If we found a user under 18 in them, we'd move them back to the lobby. I do respect chris's decision, and I see where he's coming from but I still think it's a good idea. Oh well. If yall want to talk to adult's you can hang out on my server I suppose.
ok. i don't get this. Well, i understand the fact that many people would not like to hear kids. But also people sometimes likes talking to random people. And i think there is always the posibility to create a private channel or simply move to another.... so yah..... *shrugs*
well, for what it's worth, which lets face it is nothing, i thought it was a good idea! i'm not sure i'd have attacked chris in such a personal way as bgdawg0385 did but i would agree in so much as it is an issue that probably needs rethinking. many's a time i have been in the lounge having farely adult based chat only to be complained at by younger users because they didn't like the conversation, in spight of the fact that the channel name quite clearly states, "anything goes in this section". you have to remember after all that as things stand there are rooms that have been created for younger users to go into if they so wish, to get away from this sort of thing! wih that in mind i don't see what the problem is with having adult channels!
a word of warning to all the adult channel fans though. from my experiences of late what the users want won't be taken into account so i strongly suspect that it is just something we're all going to have to deal with! *shrugs*
uh, louiano, we don't have the privilege to create private channels? I just personally there is no basis for CcChris's decision except he didn't want to hear it from people like heather.
yah i understand that. Well i don't care since I don't go onto ventrilo and if I would go then i would not use channels where freedom of speech is allowed....

Well first off I see as if figured the onces that dont use ventrillo are the first to jump up and say something. I personally am a father, and thus my xwife and I new where our daughter was chatting. So that solves that point. The second thing I appreciate Liam and the others which take the time to make this a FUN PLACE. But as I new it would happen. There would be those that dont appreciate the effort.
I personally have been a fan of the zone since I was introduced to it. I have been A willing party to help anyone that I could and have tried to be a roll model for the KIDS and adults alike.
My question would be. What would be wrong with adult rooms? They probably would have not been used much just like the teen channel is never used. But remember the teens want a place to chat on their own.
I hope all are satisfied in the descission that was made cause I sure am NOT. tn-majic ps will right more later.

I really felt that the adult rooms were really a good idea!!! So many times, we have had to sensor our talk just because of younger users. As the zone believes in freedom of speech, we shouldn't have to deal with younger users complaining about what we are saying!!! So therefore, why is this unique feature being taken away??? As far as I can tell, there is only one user who is opposed to this. But obviously, what the rest of us think does not matter!!! I can't even tell you how disappointed I am in how things have been running lately!!! I understood that this comunity believed in democracy. But it seems like what the majority of us think is necessary is not being put in to effect. I sure hope that this topic is not ignored and put down as unimportant as the "ignoring board posts" topic was!!!

For what it's worth, I don't think there's anything wrong with an adult channel, and I think it should be implimented, or reastablished.
if they can have teen time they should be able to have adult channels too, why not? I think it's a great idea!!!
Maybe people dont understand this isnt about redoing the main zone bbs site - we are talking the vt (ventrillo) rooms.
well, I agree generally with the sentiment expressed here. I felt that the adult channals were a good idea. If they have to be removed, then remove the teen only channals. If it's a case of discrimination, then that's the way to go. I just wonder sometimes if things around here either happen or don't because of who thinks of them. As for Heather the only person to really complain, I think she believes she's an adult already which is plainly not the case. I guess we all felt a bit that way at 15, but taking that into consideration it to me seems more considerate if we could have channals where we can do and say what we want without fear of people moaning.
well put kev, i can't see any problem with having adult channels. if the younger generation don't wanna hear whats going on there then they should take it up on themselves to move to another channel!
Well I understand that this isn’t about the main zone site, however, for some, the voice chat server is as big a part of the zone site as any. I personally very rarely go on to ventrillo, however, I think that as there is a teens channel, there should be an adults only channel, however, if this does not happen, then I think that people who hang out in the lounge where “anything goes” should not complain about the content of some of the discussions that happen in that channel. If people don’t like what is being talked about, they don’t have to go on there.
I got an idea, get rid of the kids. hehehe!

clair, yes there is a teen chanel, however; no where does it say "teens only" like the adult room did. also, there is no rule stating that adults can not go in the teen channel. but the adult room did..... I just don't think it's fair when I go into ventrillo and the adult room is filled up with people and because I am under 18, I have to go sit alone in a different channel. It's just... disrespectful. and I tryed to express my feelings but doug, you kept yelling at me. or.... yelling is not the approate word, more like speaking over me, interupting me. which i have found to be one of your pet peves hence, it was pretty Hypocritical of you. anyway, from talking to Chris N yesterday, it looks like there won't be adult channels for a different reason other then my complaining. so, andrew, before you start to attack me, get all your information straight.
Again I see heather your story has changed again as it did several times that night. Field you went from one excuse to another, and again today yet even another.
First off I did listen to you, as a matter of fact I listened to you for almost a day and a half til I finally said I am done.
First off let me bring to your attention publically so you will remember. The night in question Heather. For about an hour befor all this happened there was 4 or 5 people in one room they were, HEATHER, KEVIN, AUSTIN, and SPEEDYSTICKS. Out of these people there is not one of them over 18. But yet you claim you have to set in rooms all alone. As a matter of fact those same people was in the room 2 nights in a ROW. So my point still is you have friends to talk to. The amazing thing the other three stated their feelings and moved on. Not one of them took it as a personal blast.
As far as the teen room goes NO ONE EVER USES IT. And I guarentee and assure you HEATHER that if your in there having a conversation I WONT inbark on the teen privacy.
Now lastly so you will get this so there is no MISUNDERSTANDING. As I said that night LIFE IS FULL of things that teens cant do that ADULTS can. EVERYONE OF US ADULTS HAD DAYS WHERE THINGS DIDNT SEEM FAIR.

Wow, Heather!!! You've got a lot of us pissed off at you!!! You're the one who always makes things awkward whenever you come in to a channel and it's not just you who are under 18 that uses VT. So I don't know why you are complaining about being alone in a room. Just like drinking, or driving a car, or any other adult privillege, you have to wait till you're the right age to do it. So why must adult channels be disabled??? Why can't you just wait till you're 18 and more mature to appreciate this feature??? I don't know, nor care, about the other reason. It's probably more favortism again!!! I hope you have a nice day!!!

Well while I appreciate that you feel it’s not fair that because you’re under 18 you shouldn’t be allowed to go into certain channels, from an adult’s perspective, some of the users on here feel that they shouldn’t have to watch what they say or talk about because there could potentially be under 18’s in the channel, thus the creation of an adult channel would give those users the opportunity to go somewhere where they could talk without feeling they were going to offend anyone, or cross the boundaries. And while it is true that the “teen channel” wouldn’t say “teens only”, teens aren’t going to be talking about things that adults shouldn’t hear, it’s highly unlikely that an adult would want to go and sit and chat to a bunch of teenagers, no offence, it’s just that a group of teenagers aren’t that likely to be talking about topics that would interest the majority of adults, whereas most teenagers would want to go into channels full of adults. And currently we only have your word to go on that chris took down the channels for another reason, he hasn’t come on to tell the users why this was done, so unfortunately at the moment, the users feel that one user felt it was unfair, and that that one user, being in favour with the admin, had her wish granted and the channels were removed, and that what all the rest of the users who go on to ventrillo wanted was totally disregarded.
What an active topic this has become. For the record, I asked Liam to remove the adult channels from Ventrilo before I heard anything from others on the site. Here's my rationale. We try to keep this site as open and free-speech-like as possible. Users are made aware of this when signing up for an account and we trust that each person is able to decide what he or she is willing to deal with and act accordingly. The Safe Haven area was created, after some insistance, so that specific groups of people could have a place to communicate with enforced guidelines. When Ventrilo was added, Safe Haven was duplicated there. The idea was that the majority of the Ventrilo channels were uncensored much like the website, with Safe Haven for particular groups who specifically didn't want that environment. Creating adult channels seems redundant since almost all channels on Ventrilo are already uncensored. If teens are uncomfortable in an uncensored environment, they are free to pick another channel, such as the teen channel in Safe Haven. If someone is constantly harassing a group of people, policies are in place to handle the situation, though my hope is that everyone will be able to use Ventrilo without constant staff intervention.
After talking with people on Ventrilo, it looks like some of my assumptions aren't actually how it really works. We'll try having adult channels and see if they solve these problems. I hope they help.
